Blue Elephant Restaurant
Restaurant Details
Nooror Somany Steppe grew up in Thailand’s Chachoengsao province where her mother was well-known for her delicious curry pastes while her father was an indispensable part of the beef trade. Her passion for authentic Thai cuisine remains an important inspiration for the chain of Blue Elephant restaurants that trace their humble beginnings to a small storefront in Belgium, where she studied and met her husband. The Blue Elephant now has 12 award-winning branches located across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
After Chef Nooror’s wild success spreading the love for Royal Thai cuisine and culture across the world, the all-star chef returned to her homeland in 2002 to open her first Blue Elephant in the heart of Bangkok, along with a cooking school. Experience the famous Thai hospitality in a century-old Thai Chine Building where the restaurant is housed in: The elegant interior is beautifully decorated with traditional Thai handicrafts and artwork, while the exquisite fare will delight even the most discriminating of palates. Chef Nooror insists on using quality, locally-sourced ingredients and ensuring consistently high standards across all her restaurants, so feast like royalty by beginning with the Signature Zakouski (the Russian world for ‘cold dish), where creamy foie gras is served with Thai golden tamarind on a luscious bed of sweet potato and basil. The flavours work well and meld perfectly, an assuredly stellar way to kickstart the meal. Thai quintessentials such as the Tom Kha Kai, the Phad Thai, and Tom Yum Goong are not to be missed as well, but elevate your meal with the Massaman with Lamb & Sweet Purple Potato, the signature curry featuring Australian lamb succulently stewed in an irresistible blend of fragrant Massaman curry paste, coconut milk, tamarind juice, sweet purple potatoes, and roasted nuts.
Those who prefer seafood will fall in love with the spicy Phuket speciality, the Crab Curry with Betel Leaves served with vermicelli noodles. Of course, it’s not just curries here at Blue Elephant, so remember to take on the Crispy Snow Fish, the River Prawn Salad with Mangosteen, and Nooror’s Thai Belgian Croquette when you’re here!
